Amazon is rolling out a new AI-driven feature called "Help me decide," designed to enhance the shopping experience by offering personalized product recommendations. This tool analyzes users' past searches, browsing habits, and purchase history to suggest items tailored to their needs. For instance, if you're exploring options for a camping trip and have looked at gear like sleeping bags and stoves, the tool might recommend a suitable, all-weather tent for four people.
Initially, suggestions will align with the price range you're currently viewing, but users can opt to explore a wider range of prices. This new feature appears after customers have browsed multiple similar products and is accessible under the "Keep shopping for" section on Amazon's homepage.
Daniel Lloyd, Amazon's vice president of personalization, stated that "Help me decide" aims to save shoppers time by providing recommendations based on their browsing patterns, ensuring confidence in their purchasing decisions.
The technology behind "Help me decide" utilizes Amazon Web Services' Bedrock, OpenSearch, and SageMaker, alongside large language models. The feature is available for U.S. consumers on both the Amazon Shopping app and website.
This is part of Amazon's broader strategy to integrate AI into its platform. Over the past year, Amazon has introduced several AI-based tools, including the AI assistant Rufus, AI-powered shopping guides, and audio summaries of product reviews. Most recently, "Lens Live" was launched, enabling users to receive product suggestions by simply pointing their phone cameras at items in the real world.
Amazon isn’t alone in this venture; companies like Google and OpenAI are also investing heavily in AI technologies to boost sales through enhanced shopping tools. As the competition heats up, the race to provide consumers with the most intuitive and efficient shopping experience continues.
