Apple says it expects to introduce a folding iPhone in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, but early availability could be limited as the company works through final engineering steps.

A report by Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman says Apple remains committed to a fall debut for the device, though executives are watching manufacturing complexity closely. The timeline could slip, the report cautions, because September is still roughly half a year away and final approvals are pending.

Earlier coverage from Nikkei Asia had warned that engineering tests were producing hiccups that might delay shipments. Gurman’s update suggests that while problems have emerged during test phases, Apple is pushing to keep the folding model’s introduction near the nonfolding phones’ launch window.

Industry observers say the handset’s initial run will probably be smaller than for standard iPhones. That could translate into limited stock at launch and higher street prices for early buyers, especially if carriers or retailers lock up inventory.

Apple’s folding design is believed to address several issues that hampered earlier competitors, with progress reported on screen durability and reducing the visible fold. Analysts say those fixes could make the product more appealing, but mass-market adoption will hinge on cost and long-term reliability.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company has spent years watching rival makers refine folding displays, and this rollout will be closely watched by consumers and competitors alike.
