Google has introduced an upgraded version of its image-generation model, Nano Banana Pro, which brings new capabilities in image editing, resolution, and web searching. Built on the recently launched Gemini 3 language model, Nano Banana Pro offers significant improvements over its predecessor, Nano Banana. The enhanced model promises more detailed imagery and accurate text, with the ability to generate text in various styles and languages.

One of the standout features of Nano Banana Pro is its new web-search capability, allowing users to perform tasks such as finding recipes or creating flashcards directly within the tool. The model is designed to give professionals more control over image creation, with customizable options for camera angles, lighting, depth of field, and more. The resolution cap has also been increased, now supporting up to 4K images, a significant leap from the previous limit of 1024 x 1024 pixels.

Despite its advanced features, Nano Banana Pro comes at a higher cost. Users will pay $0.139 for each 1080p or 2K image and $0.24 for 4K images, compared to the original model's $0.039 per image. The model can also handle up to six high-fidelity shots or blend up to 14 objects within a single image, while maintaining consistent likeness for up to five individuals.

Google has begun integrating Nano Banana Pro into its suite of AI tools. The Gemini app now defaults to the new model, although free-tier users will be limited to a certain number of images before reverting to the original model. Subscribers to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra will benefit from higher usage thresholds and access to the model in additional applications like NotebookLM and Google Slides.

Developers can access Nano Banana Pro via the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and the new IDE, Antigravity. Additionally, Google is incorporating SynthID technology for watermarking and detecting AI-generated images, enhancing content verification through the Gemini app. Future updates will include support for C2PA content credentials, ensuring robust content verification standards are met.
