LinkedIn has tapped a decorated puzzle creator to design quick logic games aimed at nudging members toward more frequent, informal interactions on the site.

The company has named Thomas Snyder its inaugural principal puzzlemaster, bringing on the three-time world Sudoku champion full time last October. Snyder, who has produced more than 10,000 puzzles for print and digital outlets over his career, will build a slate of short games LinkedIn plans to make available at no cost to users as part of a broader tactic to keep people returning to the platform.

Snyder says the games are meant to be small mental warm-ups — items people can play alone in a few minutes or use to spark light conversation with coworkers. LinkedIn product leader Laksh Somasundaram told reporters the move fits into a deliberate effort to broaden how members spend time on the site, turning occasional visits into habitual ones through low-friction activities.

Researchers who study attention and workplace learning say brief logic tasks can help sharpen focus and serve as neutral social fodder among colleagues, especially when shared results or strategies become topics of conversation. That kind of informal exchange can loosen the strictly transactional tone of professional networks and, some psychologists argue, improve collaboration over time.

Members can find the puzzles through LinkedIn’s games section, which the company is positioning as a daily touchpoint rather than a one-off feature. Snyder’s long track record and variety of formats suggest he’ll supply material that’s both approachable for casual users and challenging enough to keep regular players coming back.
