At the recent Meta Connect developer conference, the tech giant shifted focus to immersive experiences with the introduction of new virtual reality tools, alongside the anticipated lineup of smart glasses. A highlight from the event was the launch of Hyperscape Capture, which promises to transform how users engage with digital spaces.
Hyperscape Capture, now available in Early Access, enables Quest device users to scan their surroundings and convert them into highly detailed virtual environments. While the scanning process is quick, rendering the space into a photorealistic world takes several hours. Initially, these virtual spaces will be private, but Meta plans to allow sharing through private links in the future.
Demonstrating Hyperscape's capabilities, Meta showcased several detailed recreations of notable spaces, including celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen and Chance the Rapper’s House of Kicks. This tool utilizes advanced technologies like Gaussian Splatting and cloud rendering to enhance realism, compatible with Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets.
The company also rolled out additional metaverse updates, expanding its VR game offerings with titles such as Marvel’s Deadpool VR and Star Wars: Beyond Victory. Horizon TV, Meta’s streaming app, will now feature Disney+ content, including ESPN and Hulu, broadening entertainment options for users.
In collaboration with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse, Meta will offer immersive movie experiences with films like 'M3GAN' and 'The Black Phone.' Fans of the 'Avatar' series will also enjoy a limited-time 3D clip of 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' showcasing Meta’s commitment to enhancing digital viewing experiences.
As Meta continues to develop these technologies, users can anticipate more interactive and engaging virtual environments, reflecting the company’s vision for the future of the metaverse.
