Salesforce says the purchase will fold Fin’s conversational technology and engineers into its Agentforce offering, promising faster rollout of automated customer service tools for businesses of all sizes.

Salesforce announced Monday that it has agreed to acquire Fin, the company formerly known as Intercom, for $3.6 billion. The deal is aimed at strengthening the software giant’s enterprise toolkit by combining Fin’s multichannel automated support — which handles inquiries via live chat, WhatsApp, text messages, phone and workplace messaging apps — with Salesforce’s existing platform for building bespoke AI assistants.

Company leaders said the transaction is intended to speed deployments and broaden the capabilities available to customer-service teams. In a statement, CEO Marc Benioff framed the move as a way to bring experienced engineers and mature automation into Salesforce’s enterprise stack, while a company spokesperson added the two organizations plan to move quickly to integrate engineering and product road maps.

Fin’s chief executive, Eoghan McCabe, posted on social media that the startup will remain led by its existing management team and that the extra resources should accelerate its product roadmap without changing day-to-day operations. He said the firm will continue to focus on improving outcomes for support teams even after joining Salesforce.

The acquisition is expected to conclude in the final quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal 2027 year — a period that, due to the company’s reporting calendar, corresponds to the opening months of 2027. Industry analysts say the deal underscores consolidation in the market for AI-driven support and could pressure smaller vendors, while offering customers more tightly integrated solutions — though they caution about integration hurdles and the potential for reduced vendor choice.
