Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity firm in Lake Mary, Fla., announced a $200 million financing round led by Insight Partners to expand tools that tell genuine users apart from automated visitors. The company was founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers and says its software is aimed at helping companies root out fake accounts and online threats that hide behind complex routing services.

Spur’s platform analyzes behavioral signals and infrastructure fingerprints to flag suspicious sessions, a capability customers use to reduce fraud and protect account integrity. The founders began work long before generative AI captured public attention, giving the startup a head start on automation-driven abuse.

Recent industry data underscores the urgency. A mid-2026 Cloudflare report found that automated programs now generate just over one-half of internet traffic, a first for the web. Insight partner Thomas Krane said organizations often observe activity without clear sight of the networks that create it, fueling demand for clearer visibility.

Security veterans say the surge in machine-driven traffic will force firms to balance stricter defenses with fewer false blocks for real customers. And investors appear to be wagering that demand for those tools will only grow.
