Submitted HTML Lacked Article Text, So Reporter Couldn’t Extract Story

The HTML snippet you sent didn’t include the actual news item — there was no headline, byline, date or story paragraphs to work from. What was present were site navigation elements, links to other pieces, sign-up or promotional blocks and footer material. Without the page’s main content, I can’t pull the article or its featured image.

The elements that typically contain the story — the title tag or the article section of the document — were missing from the excerpt. Instead the file looked like scaffolding: menus, related-article links and newsletter prompts. That kind of submission prevents any automated or manual extraction of the text and metadata you asked for.

Please send the full page HTML or a larger snippet that contains the article’s headline, author line, publication date and the body copy. With that I’ll retrieve the full article text, the byline and date, and the URL for the main image. I’ll also return the cleaned-up story ready for editing.

A few reasons this can happen: some sites render story content dynamically with page scripts, others delay loading images or body copy until user interaction, and paywalls or personalized sessions can hide article text from raw downloads. If you’re not sure, save the page as “complete” in your browser, or share the output of a “view-source” or a full-page download from a headless browser.

A web developer familiar with content scraping suggested checking whether the server is sending the story in the initial HTML or delivering it later via background requests. If it’s the latter, a static save won’t capture it and a different capture method is needed.

Send the larger HTML file or a direct link that includes the visible article, and I’ll proceed. If you prefer, paste the headline, byline, date and the first few paragraphs directly into your next message and I’ll start extracting right away.
